13th June 2018

I’d had a couple of days testing here over the winter but both were wet days, so I had yet to test the circuit in dry conditions. The weekend was shaping up to be like summer (surprising!) so I was keen to get out in practice and see what the track was like in the dry.

Both practice sessions went well, and I was in with a shout of the leaders so felt confident going into qualifying, even with a brake issue which James my mechanic would easily sort. However it was not meant to be and I posted 8th and 11th fastest times which at this circuit was a bit annoying, it’s not the best circuit to overtake as it is twisty and narrow. Oh well, I’d have to just dig deep.

The first race was late Saturday, it was a bit of a battle really from 8th but I managed to fight my way up to 4th, which later on became 3rd after the leader Luke Browning was excluded at scrutineering.

Sunday was again dry but I knew I had a battle on my hands as I was starting 11th so I just aimed to try and gain as many points as possible and go for damage limitation. Well the race was mad! There was an incident near the start which pulled me up to 7th, then I sat back for a few laps while a small pack in front squabbled over position, and a few errors meant I could pass them cleanly and all of a sudden I was in reach of the podium! Team mate Greg was in 2nd and he’s an experienced driver so I knew I had my hands full but I managed to get a tow and pass him on the last lap to get P2! Luke (the leader) was miles away by this point but I was so happy to have turned my weekend around, and it was good to see Greg on the podium too.
