With just one round left in this year’s BRDC British F3 Championship, Louis Foster heads to Silverstone this weekend as one of only five drivers still in title contention.
Making his debut in the series this season, the 17-year-old is the only rookie still in the championship battle and has enjoyed a highly successful maiden campaign with three wins, four pole positions and six overall podium finishes with Double R Racing. The Copart-sponsored driver currently occupies fourth place in the championship standings, 67 points behind points leader Kaylen Frederick with more than 100 still available across the weekend.
The Poggesi-supported racer heads to Silverstone fresh from his second appearance in Euroformula Open, where a sublime drive in race two propelled him to a second-place podium finish at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
An accident in race four in Barcelona left Louis with an arm injury but a series of medical examinations have revealed the injury was less serious than initially thought and the Lord Wandsworth College pupil has been cleared to race this weekend.
Taking place at Silverstone, the Home of British Motor Racing, the season finale will consist of three races around the full 3.661-mile Grand Prix circuit. An iconic venue steeped in motorsport history, the circuit consists of a wide variety of corners, each posing a different challenge for drivers. Combining fast, sweeping corners such as Copse and the snaking sequence of Maggots and Becketts with slower, more technical turns like Village and The Loop, the track creates thrilling action and drama.
Silverstone has been the scene of much success for Louis as he took a clean sweep of victories at the Northamptonshire circuit in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2018 and followed that up with two further victories and a third-place finish in British F4 in 2019.
“It’s going to be an exciting weekend,” Louis said. “It’s very hard to predict what will happen but the most important thing is keeping focused on what I do on track. I’ve had some great races at Silverstone in the past – it’s a track I really enjoy driving and I can’t wait to get the weekend started. Fortunately, my injury was less serious than we first thought which means I’m all cleared to compete. I know what I need to do and I can’t wait for the challenge so I’ll go out there and give it my all as always.”
With action across the weekend, qualifying marks the start of proceedings at 10:50 on Saturday morning with race one early in the afternoon at 13:45. The championship cannot be settled on Saturday alone meaning races two and three, at 09:20 and 11:50 respectively on Sunday morning, will serve as compulsive viewing and are set to be live streamed on the BRDC British F3 website and YouTube channel.
