Foster kicks off four-race month in Detroit

Louis Foster is aiming to build on winning the last Indy NXT race at Indianapolis as the series heads to Detroit this weekend.

Foster, 20, has had a rollercoaster start to the year but has rebounded from adversity - including huge comeback drives at Barber and the first Indy road course race - to sit third in the championship.

Last year was a double-header in Detroit for Indy NXT, whereas this year it’s just a single race event, however Foster is hoping to take that extra learning from last year to close the gap to the series’ points leader.

“Getting two races in here at Detroit last year was handy for learning the track,” says Foster, who is backed by Copart, a global leader in online auto auctions.
“Obviously it’s the same for everyone, but it is nice going in to somewhere knowing we got those two races under our belt last year and we can hopefully go a couple of places better than last year’s podium.
“It’s a new track and a short one, everything comes at you quickly here.”

Improving qualifying has been the big focus of Foster and his Andretti team, who have come from the back of the grid to incredible results this season, but are hoping to spend the rest of the season starting higher up in a bid to have more control in the races.

“Andretti Global has been working incredibly hard in this short gap to try and improve, as have I, so I’m excited to see what we can achieve in Detroit,” added Foster.
“It’s been a big month for the team as a whole with the Indy 500 last weekend, but we’re all focused on continuing our strong race form and moving forward in the Indy NXT championship standings.
“There’s four races in June with Road America straight after Detroit and then a double-header at Laguna Seca, so the races are going to come thick and fast.
“I think we’re set up well as a team to cope with that.”

In the UK you’ll be able to watch Louis race live this Sunday on Sky Sports F1. In America the event will be broadcast on Peacock and for countries which don’t have a broadcast partner, the sessions are available on IndyCar Live for streaming.
